It’s time to think about WVU’s Summer Term, where you can take courses on-campus, online or even in another country! Summer Term allows you to get ahead in your major, complete a minor, or enhance your educational experience through studying abroad.
As a matter of fact, with more than 1,000 courses available this year, the Summer Term schedule is more flexible than ever, offering courses in three-, six-, eight-, nine- and 12-week increments.
Check the WVU Summer website for information about all courses. The first summer classes begin May 15.
Students can register beginning at the end of March, and up through the first day of classes, providing that seats are available.
As in the past, registration dates will vary, according to class ranking, so be sure to check with your adviser to see what your exact registration date will be.
With multiple course start dates, you can take a course in the early summer or wait and take a course later in the term. You can complete a minor on-campus or online, take your studies international with WVU’s Education Abroad Program.
Most importantly, you should talk to your adviser early and use DegreeWorks to plan a schedule to see how the Summer Term can benefit you with your educational goals.
Since summer classes are held in-person and also online, students have the ability to interact with faculty and peers in a variety of ways. WVU’s eCampus offers several solutions that include discussion boards, wikis, blogs, and more.
Although many people believe that summers are slow on college campuses, about 40 percent of students enrolled at WVU take a summer course. Of these students, 70 percent use the term to complete general education courses, and 50 percent intend to use the summer course to graduate early or get ahead in their classes.
You can go home and take classes online, or you can stay on campus and complete your coursework here, while enjoying the beauty of West Virginia in the summer.
If you’re looking for something a little different, the WVU School of Sport Sciences offers a wide variety of major and minor requirement courses and electives during the summer, as well as physical education classes in a variety of sports.
Likewise, summer is also a great opportunity to enhance a résumé and transcript with study abroad opportunities. WVU Education Abroad provides information about summer international internships, summer exchange programs and other study abroad experiences.
Of course, students may register up through the first day of classes, as long as space remains, but you should register as early as possible.
Be sure to visit the Summer Term website for up-to-date information on course offerings, important deadlines, and available student resources and activities.
