Internal Student Complaint Process

Occasionally a student will encounter an issue with an online course that he or she doesn’t know how to resolve. When this occurs, students should always contact the instructor first. Most issues are resolved when a student communicates their frustrations/concerns with the instructor. Students are encouraged to review the appropriate guidelines for each WVU campus. See the links below.


West Virginia University

The WVU Catalog defines Institutional Academic Rights, Penalties, and Appeal policies.


Potomac State College

For information regarding policies, grade appeal procedures or academic probation/dismissal please refer to the Potomac State Catalog. Appeals information can be found on page 43-45.


West Virginia University Institute of Technology

For information regarding policies, grade appeal procedures or academic probation/dismissal please refer to the WVUIT Student Handbook.


WVU Online

Only students enrolled in a WVU Online major/program or course should complete this form. Students not enrolled in a WVU Online program should visit The Office of the Provost site and complete the proper form.

State Contacts

The student should begin the complaint process with the institution and if resolution is not found, the student would contact the Institution’s Home State SARA Portal Entity.


Higher Learning Commission

West Virginia University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Comments may also be filed with the HLC.
