Michael Harman

Eberly College of Arts and Media | Department of Geology and Geography
Teaching Associate Professor of Geography; Director of the Online Master’s Program in GIS and Spatial Analysis

Michael's area of interest includes analysis of spatial data, 3D visualization, modeling complex landforms and processes, teaching GIS and GISci, and mentoring geoscientists. In 2020, Michael mentored a team of students in the National Geothermal Design Challenge who won the contest with the poster, “Geothermal Locality Index: Where to Find ‘The Heat Beneath Our Feet'”.

"I am a teaching faculty member in this amazing department. I don’t have a research focus; as the Director of the online M.S. degree program in Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis, I focus on my student’s outcomes. At present, I preside over a group of nearly 40 graduate students all seeking a better life through higher education. Our program is a new but rapidly growing asynchronous online degree program designed to facilitate equitability in access to advanced training and education across a range of degree seekers." - Michael Harman
