Curriculum

By majoring in General Business, you will acquire essential business fundamentals, develop a comprehensive understanding of organizational operations, and equip yourself with the skills needed to excel in corporate management training programs. You will work with your advisor to plan a customized curriculum, selecting 30 credits of upper-level business courses, with no more than 9 credits in any specific discipline.

By pursuing this program, you will be able to:

  • Think critically and solve problems in business settings.
  • Deal with the dynamics of individuals and teams within organizations and to motivate, lead, and inspire employees toward achieving organizational goals.
  • Use computer and information technology in solving problems and perform functions commonly seen in managing businesses and other organizations.
  • Recognize the opportunities and challenges associated with the global marketplace.
  • Have an appreciation of the ethical, legal, and regulatory issues impacting the decision-making process.
  • Communicate recommendations to management and other constituencies, orally and in writing.

University Requirements
  • General Education Foundations (GEF) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 (31-37 credits)
  • Outstanding GEF Requirements 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8, 16 credit hours
  • BCOR 191: First-Year Seminar, 1 credit hour

  • ECON 202: Principles of Macroeconomics (Minimum grade of C-; may fulfill GEF 8), 3 credit hours

General Business Major Requirements
Possess a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all major courses calculated using all attempted GPA hours unless excluded by the D/F repeat policy.

  • Major Electives*, 30 credit hours

*The thirty semester hours of major electives that form the General Business major must consist of upper-division business and economics courses in disciplines such as Accounting (ACCT), Economics (ECON), Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ENTR), Finance (FIN), Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM), Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTOR), Management (MANG), Management Information Systems (MIST), Marketing (MKTG) and Organizational Leadership (ORGL). No more than nine semester hours in one of the aforementioned disciplines may apply toward the major. General Business majors may apply for up three credit hours of Professional Field Experience toward the major electives and the remaining three credit hours toward unrestricted electives.

Admissions Requirements and Eligibility

For admission to a Chambers online undergraduate major, first time freshmen should:

  • Have a minimum 2.0 overall GPA and be admitted to WVU.
  • Have a test score equivalent to place into MATH 122.
    • SAT Math Score of 510 OR
    • ACT Math Score of 19 OR
    • Students who apply without test scores, but meet other admission requirements will be conditionally admitted and will be required to complete ALEKS Math Placement Testing and score a 39 or higher to place into MATH 122.

For admission to a Chambers online undergraduate major, transfer students should:

  • Be admitted to WVU.
  • Have transfer credit for MATH 122 or higher with a C- or higher OR
  • Have a test score equivalent to placing into MATH 122.
    • SAT Math Score of 510 OR
    • ACT Math Score of 19 OR
    • Students who apply without test scores, but meet other admission requirements will be conditionally admitted and will be required to complete ALEKS Math Placement Testing and score a 39 or higher to place into MATH 122.

Students who do not have placement or a MATH 122 equivalent on their transcript should  discuss eligibility with Amy Roberts-Dixon.
