The Master of Science in Sport Coaching offered by the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences will prepare you to be a lifelong learner who can adapt to contemporary demands in the coaching profession. You will learn by applying the latest recommendations for best practice to your own coaching, and this program is perfect for individuals who have a coaching placement at the collegiate, scholastic, club or community level. The program is designed for success-oriented individuals who are motivated by career advancement, and graduates work as athletic trainers, in professional sport associations and organizations, and coaching athletes for improved sport performance.

The MS in Sport Coaching program at WVU has been ranked #9 Best Online Master’s in Coaching Degrees and #3 Most Affordable Online Master’s in Coaching Degrees according to College Choice.
The Sport Coaching degree, from the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, is offered fully online and prepares students to work in the coaching profession at the scholastic, community, and club levels. The curriculum is aligned with the International Sport Coaching Framework established by the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE). In addition to obtaining the foundational knowledge and skills to work with young athletes in a variety of sport contexts, the curriculum focuses on whole athlete development: sport talent, life skills, and personal character. Students also work closely with faculty across their plan of study to apply what they are learning with the goal of transforming their own coaching practices.
A baccalaureate degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Students may be admitted provisionally with a GPA of 2.75 or lower; however, provisional students must earn a 3.0 in the first 9 hours of coursework to continue in the program. Admission preference is given to individuals with coaching experience. All students need access to sport teams and athletes on a regular basis, given the applied nature of many course assignments.
*Applicants with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.75 may be admitted provisionally. Provisional admits must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their first 9 credit hours in order to remain in the program. Admission to the program is highly competitive.
No GRE is required. TOFEL scores are required for international students.
Application Deadlines:
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until August 1 for a fall term
start, December 15 for a spring term start, and May 1 for a summer term start.
Sport Coaching M.S. requires 30 credit hours to complete. Cost per credit hour is $655.
