Overview


The Sport Coaching degree, from the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, is offered fully online and prepares students to work in the coaching profession at the scholastic, community, and club levels. The curriculum is aligned with the International Sport Coaching Framework established by the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE). In addition to obtaining the foundational knowledge and skills to work with young athletes in a variety of sport contexts, the curriculum focuses on whole athlete development: sport talent, life skills, and personal character. Students also work closely with faculty across their plan of study to apply what they are learning with the goal of transforming their own coaching practices.

Admissions Requirements

Have an earned a baccalaureate degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Have access to youth (children and adolescents) in school or community-based sport settings throughout the duration of the program. Preference will be given to individuals with physical education, exercise science, kinesiology, athletic training, athletic coaching education, sport and exercise psychology, or related bachelor’s degrees. Individuals with sport-related experiences, particularly coaching, are also encouraged to apply. Students may be admitted provisionally with a GPA of 2.75 or lower; however, provisional students must earn a 3.0 in the first 9 hours of coursework to continue in the program.
