She received her B.A. in Physical Education from the University of Northern Iowa and earned both her master’s in Physical Education and Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Georgia.

Her experience with technology as a supplement to physical activity is something that she enjoys passing on to her students in her online Instructional Technology in PE and Sports course. In this course she challenges students to think of ways to incorporate technology–like pedometers–to track student progress

Emily has continuously stressed the outstanding quality of the students and other faculty in WVU’s Physical Education Teacher Education program and is honored to be a part of such a hard-working team of professionals. Her advice to future PETE teachers is to use resources available to make the most out of any physical education class. By thinking outside of the box and incorporating different curriculum that is specific to the area, students and their families can use that knowledge to get up and move in their own backyards.
