As a physical education teacher in Greenbrier County, West Virginia for the last eight years, Chris has turned ordinary middle school PE curriculum into something extraordinary.

Chris has implemented unique outdoor activities in Greenbrier that make his students want to get up and move. Disc golf, mountain biking, archery and slacklining–just to name a few–keep the kids guessing and moving even on the weekends when they are not in school. The love for physical activity that Chris has shown his students is just one of the reasons why he has been named West Virginia’s Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year.

His advice to future physical education teachers? “Middle school kids sometimes act like they don’t want to do a certain sport or activity but don’t give up. Keep selling it and they’ll buy it one of these days.”
