“Interpersonal”

Alexandra Ashworth chose WVU Online because it gave her the flexibility to pursue her education to the fullest, while maintaining part-time work and additional academic pursuits.

“WVU Online has provided avenues for me to fully garner knowledge, while being able to complete a second degree, hold two jobs, and complete my academic work anywhere within the United States,” she says.

When choosing to pursue Child Development & Family Studies (CDFS), she found the online class offerings within the major to be extremely beneficial.

“At the time, I knew I desired to obtain two degrees simultaneously, but was unsure how I would be able to balance out the busy nature of my schedule. Upon finding out that my program offered many of its classes in an online format, it opened up my weekly availability to further pursue both my academic and extracurricular pursuits.”

In addition to this, a big reason Alexandra chose to pursue a degree in CDFS was the faculty.

“The faculty within the Child Development & Family Studies major are phenomenal, both online and in person!”

1. Biggest Challenge
The largest challenge of online learning is time management. While online learning provided me with much more time, it also meant that my schedule had less structure. Through online learning, I had to figure out how to balance out my weekly learning with my weekly “To Do” list.

2. How Online Learning Prepared Her for the Future
Online learning has taught me a great deal about the importance of hearing diversified perspectives.

3. Her “Big Three” Things Learned from Online Classes
Time management, utilizing the internet, and online research.

4. WVU Campus Resources She Found Helpful
The Writing Center and Tutoring Services have been very helpful. The most helpful, however, was fostering positive rapport with both peers and my professors.

5. Most Memorable Online Class Experience
Having the opportunity to further my research interests within the online format. As my second major is a B.F.A. in Puppetry, I was able to implement the art form within my lesson planning in multiple online courses. I also have a passion for studying the Japanese language and have even been able to utilize my language learning within various projects, discussions, and research endeavors.

6. Things She Didn’t Expect
I didn’t expect online learning to be as in depth as it was! Due to it being online, should the learner have more time, there are ample resources to further explore course material.
