Colleges and Universities offering distance education must abide by the laws of each of the states in which they enroll students. WVU Online maintains documentation for state approvals and participates on national and state forums to improve the process. The map below shows the status of each state. If an online or distance student has a complaint regarding a course, he/she should contact their instructor first. If the concern is not resolved, follow this link to file a consumer complaint.
* West Virginia University is authorized by the Washington Student Achievement Council and meets the requirements and minimum educational standards established for degree-granting institutions under the Degree-Granting Institutions Act. This authorization is subject to periodic review and authorizes West Virginia University to offer field placement components for specific degree programs. The Council may be contacted for a list of currently authorized programs. Authorization by the Council does not carry with it an endorsement by the Council of the institution or its programs.
